We Americans certainly do love our coffee, and we are not alone. All around the world, people drink their coffee at many different times of day, whether that time is first thing in the morning when we are trying to get our day started or anytime throughout the day when we are at work meetings or having a meal. Coffee has become an almost, and many would say a definite, essential thing to have around.
People rely on their coffee. It has become a habit for many to not even really be able to begin functioning at full capacity without it. We have come to rely on it a great deal. Some are as addicted to where they get their coffee as they are to the cup of coffee itself. A certain coffee shop or a certain brand of coffee they buy in order to make a cup for themselves while they are at home.
In a recent study, 86% of past-day coffee drinkers reported that they made their coffee at home. The statistics also came back saying that we drinker, on average, 1.64 cups of coffee every day. No matter how many cups of coffee they will need to sustain them through the day, of those cups, the first one and the one for later in the evening are usually made at home.
A good number of people drink several cups of coffee from their home machines. Some even bring their home-brewed coffee to work in a thermos or some other warm liquid holder, like a hot soup container. Whatever the case may be, home brewing coffee machines are getting better and better every year, and people like having a tasty cup of joe whenever they want one at home.
There probably isn’t an adult human on the planet who has not at least tried a cup of coffee. It is engrained in our culture. There are many reasons that drinking coffee is a good idea. One of these reasons was found by the researchers at the Seoul National University in Seoul, Korea, when they examined the brains of rats who were stressed with sleep deprivation. The researchers discovered that the rats who were exposed to coffee aromas had developed changes in their brain proteins that were tied to that stress.
Who knows if simply smelling coffee beans can remove stress altogether, but most people, even if they don’t like the taste of coffee, enjoy the pleasant aroma of the coffee bean.
Coffee has the benefits of helping you stay awake, of reducing your stress and might even be useful beyond those two perks. Doctors believe that coffee can help with the symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease, can help prevent cirrhosis of the liver and can even just flat out make you a little bit happier.
For many Americans, starting the day without at least a couple cups of coffee is unthinkable. Coffee is one of the most consistent dietary staples across a wide variety of cultures and ethnicities. If you haven’t tried a cup, you do not know what you are missing. You might come for the taste but you might just stay around for the benefits.
