The restaurant industry is doing quite well these days. About 34% of Americans enjoy at least one meal a week at casual dining establishments alone. Given this, it’s not surprising to learn that annual sales have attained $783 billion.

The commercial bakery market has experienced growth over the years as well. In 2008, for example, this industry’s revenue was $26.2 billion. By 2014, the commercial bakery market’s annual revenue had expanded to $30.9 billion.

Even though Americans love to enjoy a pastry or two with a cup of coffee, pizza is a major favorite. The results of a Harris Poll revealed that pizza is actually the number-one favorite comfort food in the country. Many Americans eat pizza once a week, while others enjoy this favorite food even more often. Technomic’s 2016 Pizza Consumer Trend Report found that this was the case for 41% of their participants.

When it comes to pizza toppings, there’s a good chance many Americans are choosing some type of meat, such as pepperoni and sausage. Even though these have been popular topping choices for decades, more and more Americans are consuming meat. Projections by Rabobank, a research and advisory firm, indicate that meat consumption will exceed 200 pounds a year per capita in 2018.

Restaurants throughout the country offer a variety of traditional and international cuisines. In some instances, representative dishes from multiple cuisines are all on the same menu. As of 2011, however, there were more Mexican restaurants than any other type of dining establishment. This includes Chinese and Italian restaurants, seafood shacks, chicken rotisseries, and similar eateries. In 2011 alone, there were 38,000 or more Mexican restaurants throughout the country. There’s an excellent chance that count has grown even higher lately.

Are you preparing to open a casual or fine-dining restaurant? A bakery, perhaps? As you know, you’ll need a variety of equipment for your kitchen. Given that American meat consumption is rising, you’ll definitely want to consider purchasing a commercial meat tenderizer. If you’re opening an Italian restaurant, for instance, you’ll want to purchase a commercial dough mixer and sheeter for your pizza and ravioli. In addition to a commercial meat tenderizer, you’ll also want a meat cutting machine to slice that pepperoni and an industrial meat grinder for prepping meatballs.

Once you purchase all of the commercial grade restaurant equipment you need, including that commercial meat tenderizer, your restaurant’s kitchen will begin to take shape. Since there’s a good chance you’ve already finalized the menu, you know how important it is to have the right equipment to prepare the ingredients for your signature dishes. Whether you’re opening a casual restaurant that serves America’s favorite comfort food, or are adding to the long list of Mexican restaurants, remember that the restaurant business is definitely on the upswing.
